Sketchnotes of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras

I am currently attending a second yoga teacher training (it is happening online, which is great, because otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to study with Patrick and Carling). For the philosophy part I dove back into my old notes from the first teacher training I took in India. I was lucky to study with a fantastic teacher back then, Vimal Sharma. We spent a lot of time diving deep into Patanjali’s yoga sutras, and Vimalji did a fantastic job of deconstructing each sutra, explaining the meaning and etymology of each word and the different interpretations of the dense aphorisms. I thoroughly enjoyed this great introduction to this fundamental text and yoga philosophy ended up being one of my favourite topics during the training.

Below are my notes from the first two sutras of chapter one.

If you are interested in my full notes from this teacher training, I actually made a book out of them. Besides the philosophy, it also contains are also notes on asana and pranayama practice, alignment and anatomy.

And a fun fact: the visual notes and many sequences I drew during this teacher training were the precursor and inspiration to creating the Yoganotes book.
